How to Convert Encrypted NSF Files?
Follow Steps to Convert Encrypted NSF File
While accessing certain applications that requires Installation of Lotus Notes Email client, you may have faced errors like:
"Lotus Notes NOT installed/configured properly."
In this case, We will suggest you to open NSF file by double clicking so as to check if your NSF file has been encrypted or not. So, while opening the NSF file by double clicking it, you get errors like:
- "You are not authorized to access that database."

Then your NSF file is said to be encrypted.
In the case of "Local Access Protection" error, consider the conditions:
Condition 1
When there is an existing database you must access
Then you will require .id file associated and a password i.e., the encryption uses a key stored in your Lotus Notes ID file. It can be a generic private key or an encryption key specially added to your Notes ID just for encryption. This is a two step process.
- Open Lotus Notes
- Go to File
- Click on Security
- Then, Switch ID as shown below:
Locate the .ID file and enter password and you will be able to access NSF file in Lotus Notes
Then run SysTools product so as to convert encrypted NSF files.

A default security setting is available that encrypts local replicas in Notes releases. The steps to be followed are:
- Go to File menu
- Click on Security
- Then, User Security
- Under Notes Data, select Databases
- select "Do not locally encrypt this database"
- click OK.
Condition 3
If you have a Domino Administrator Installed

- Select Properties
- In the Properties dialog box, click Encryption Settings
- Then, select Do not locally encrypt this database
- Click OK
- Click on the database in the Files list
- Click Compact
- Accept the default options and click OK
Condition 4
If Domino Administrator is not available:
- Copy the database to the Notes
- Open Notes
- login with the user ID and password for that database
- Open the database in Notes
- Click on File menu and then, Open
- Click Application and Browse
- Open the Database Properties dialog box of the database's
